Three-in-two at Permatang Pauh area

VOTERS in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency will be voting for the third time in two years on August 25, 2009. The constituency is made up of three seats which are Permatang Pasir, Penanti and Seberang Jaya. Read here. The death of Permatang Pasir assemblyman Datuk Hamdan Abdul Rahman (Pas), meant that a by-election would have to be held. Hamdan, who had held the seat since 1999, had won with a huge majority in the last general election.

Meanwhile, in an effort to put a dent in PR’S armour, Umno will field a local candidate to contest in the by-election. Read here. The party hopes to emulate the "success" it had in the Manik Urai elections recently, when it drastically reduced the winning majority to just 65 votes for Pas. Read here
