THE Permatang Pasir by-election promises to be a tough fight between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat. Nomination closed on Monday (17.08.09) with BN fielding Permatang Pauh Umno secretary Rohaizat Othman while Penang Pas commissioner Mohd Salleh Man will be running for PR. Read here. Independent candidate Kamarul Ramizu Idris (read here) could not make it in time as he was delayed by the traffic congestion along the route to the nomination centre. Read here.
Unlike Penanti where BN conceded a walkover (read here, here and  here), it has taken an aggressive stance here: - It will adopt a face-to-face approach in the election campaign to win over the voters as it had in the Manik Urai election. Read here
- DPM Muhyiddin explains that what is important is for BN to explain the 1Malaysia concept to the people who would vote "rationally". He also said that voters know the opposition parties, even in Penang, are facing internal problems. Read here and here
