Named after St Francis Xavier, Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order), SXI was founded in 1852. During WWII, its original building was destroyed by Allied aerial bombing in 1941 after the Japanese troops occupied the building. The new building dates from 1954.
