Named after a Muslim cleric, Syed Mustapa Idris, better known as Dato Koyah, this shrine was built by his followers. Dato Koyah was a healer, spiritual leader and teacher who fled the Malabar Coast in Southern India after he was accused of a murder he did not commit. Even in Penang, he went in and out of the jail but later won the respect of the British.
